When I heard that our buddy LiLo, the famous trainwreck actress, had a line of self tanners, I said to myself, “Wow! That’s a terrible idea!” I mean let’s face it, she’s a very beautiful girl who’s been looking a bit rough around the edges lately. I just wasn’t sure I wanted to buy a product she was endorsing, you know? Plus, she can’t even spell…the line is called Sevin Nyne, because her lucky numbers are 7 and 9. WTF? However, I read a few glowing reviews on Sephora.com and figured I’d give it a try. Turns out, it’s pretty good stuff…maybe one of the best self tanners I’ve used to date. And this pasty lady has tried a LOT of self tanners! The sun + me = a red, blotchy nightmare, so I typically avoid it at all costs. Plus, the sun gives you wrinkles and cancer, and makes you all leathery and crinkly, and that’s exactly what I am trying to avoid. Anyway, back to LiLo and her amazing Sevin Nyne self tanning lotion. Here’s a few pros and cons…
Pro: The smell. It’s very nice as it goes on. Kind of coconutty vanilla-ish.
Con: The smell. Like all self-tanners, it makes you stink like self tanner after about an hour. It’s not as bad as some, but it definitely has “that smell.” You know what I’m talking about.
Pro: It has a bronze tone to it that instantly makes you look tan, which is fun, but also practical because you can see exactly where it’s going and thus avoid potential blotches and streaks.
Con: the bronze color makes a mess…avoid light colored clothing and sheets at all costs! Also WASH YOUR HANDS THOROUGHLY as soon as you’re done applying (maybe even in between applying to different body parts) to avoid orange palms. I had some trouble blending into my feet and ankle area, but that was just because I didn’t take enough time there. Otherwise, I’m fairly even and streak free. I had my husband apply to my back…don’t try to put it on your own back. Get someone to help you!
Pro: the color is lovely. It’s not orange or weird looking, even on my pale ass. It’s a pretty believable golden tan.
Pro: My skin feels very soft. Granted, I shaved and exfoliated first, which is always a good idea before applying any self tanner. But the lotion made me even softer. It has some high quality ingredients that moisturize well.
It costs $35 for a good size tube. You don’t need a ton of product, so I’m expecting this tube to last for a few full body applications. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this product benefits skin cancer awareness, which is a good thing. They also make a spray version which I have not tried yet.

So I’m willing to try this. I, too, avoid the sun. But I’ve been using L’Oreal’s Sublime Bronze. Give it a try sometime. I actually like it a lot. Goes on “tan.” I don’t look orange at all. Very realistic color. It doesn’t smell like cocobutter, nor does it smell like a self tanner. And, here’s the kicker…. you shimmer!
Oh, well…all you have to say is “shimmer” and I’m in! I’ll have to give that a try, especially since the price is right. I love L’Oreal products. Thanks Jen!
